LC’s FlamencoFest offers rare access to world-class flamenco workshops, performance

The spirit of Spain will come alive at Laredo College from July 28 through Aug. 1 as the FlamencoFest returns for a week of vibrant performances, hands-on learning and cultural celebration. Featuring internationally acclaimed dancers, musicians and instructors, the festival offers the community a unique opportunity to experience the passion and tradition of flamenco.

Made possible through the generous support of the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Foundation, FlamencoFest is a gift to the community that showcases one of the world’s most expressive and captivating art forms.

Throughout the week, audiences and participants will have the chance to learn from artists who have performed on stages around the world. In addition to sharing their talent through performance, these accomplished professionals will lead immersive workshops designed to introduce participants to the rich traditions and expressive techniques that define flamenco.

The festival features five workshops: three dance classes at the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels, along with specialized workshops in Guitar and Cante (flamenco singing). Led by acclaimed artists Andrea Lozano, Kayla Lyall, Illeana Gomez, Eloy Gonzales and Vicente Griego, the sessions are designed to inspire creativity, build confidence and deepen appreciation for the art of flamenco.

These workshops provide the community with a rare opportunity to learn directly from internationally renowned flamenco artists, offering authentic instruction rooted in the rich traditions of this celebrated form. Participants will strengthen their technical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of flamenco’s history, culture and expressive artistry.

To conclude this extraordinary week, the festival culminates in a breathtaking tablao performance on Aug. 1 at the Kazen Student Center, where our guest artists will bring the stage to life with the power, emotion and authenticity that make flamenco so captivating. A tablao is more than a show; it’s an intimate, electric exchange between dancers, singers, musicians and audience. Expect an evening of vibrant color, intricate footwork and soul-stirring music that will leave you moved long after the final beat.

“Over the past three years, we have seen FlamencoFest grow into a highly anticipated cultural event that has captured the interest and enthusiasm of the community,” Laredo College Dance Faculty and FlamencoFest Co-Chairs Patricia Godines and Cristina Greco said. “The festival has become more than a series of classes and performances. It has evolved into a meaningful cultural celebration that brings people together, inspires artistic exploration and fosters a deeper appreciation for this vibrant art form. Its continued growth reflects the community’s desire for high-quality arts programming and meaningful cultural experiences.”

These performers invest in our community by sharing their knowledge, mentoring participants and inspiring the next generation of artists.
