Starting this summer, Laredo College students will have more flexible course options through the Texas Course Sharing Exchange, a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board statewide initiative that brings together 25 institutions of higher education and opens select online courses to Palominos interested in a variety of offerings.
Expanding LC’s course catalog through this partnership provides students access to courses offered by participating colleges and universities across the state when those courses are unavailable or full at their home institution, LC Dean of Academic Innovation and Technology Dr. Elizabeth Rodriguez said.
“Summer provides students with an excellent opportunity to accelerate progress toward their degree, recover from a missed course or complete prerequisite requirements before the fall semester,” she said. “The Course Sharing Program increases the number of available options, making it easier for students to find the courses they need when they need them. This flexibility can help students save both time and money on their path to graduation.”
Laredo College’s participation in the program will also extend these benefits to students across Texas. LC will offer one Federal Government (GOVT 2305) course and one History (HIST 1301) for Summer Session II, helping students who need these courses to prepare for the fall. Over time, additional courses will become available through the program, allowing students to learn alongside classmates from across the state.
Dr. Rodriguez said the goal of the partnership is to position LC as a recognized leader in innovative and accessible learning opportunities. To support this effort, LC faculty who are already certified to teach online and hybrid courses are expected to begin offering courses through the exchange starting Fall 2026.
The Course Sharing Exchange connects students with convenient courses from across the state through an easy-to-use search portal that allows them to find and register for available classes. The program also helps both the institution and students track progress, supporting timely completion of educational goals.
“The Texas Course Sharing Exchange represents the future of higher education–one that emphasizes collaboration, flexibility and student success,” Dr. Rodriguez added. “We are excited to be part of an initiative that removes barriers to course access while creating new opportunities for students both within our community and across the state. For Laredo College, it reinforces our commitment to innovation, academic excellence and serving students wherever they are.”
