After four lively years at Laredo College, Roxanne Jimenez closed the chapter on her days as an LC student as she walked the stage at the Summer 2026 Commencement Ceremony. She did so confidently, knowing she made the most of her time by volunteering, joining multiple clubs and working on campus. So, if there is anyone to ask about what LC has to offer, it’s her.
Jimenez enrolled at LC to prepare for her future and to stay close to her family who define a large part of her life. As she explored what LC had to offer, Jimenez began attending student events such as the LC loteria, Welcome Week and Fall Fest to get out of her comfort zone and work toward her personal goal of strengthening her leadership skills. Her interest in these activities revealed more opportunities through all of the student organizations LC has available.
Jimenez continued her mission of personal growth by joining several student organizations. She served as president of the TACHE/Move Texas Student Organization, which focuses on Chicano and Hispanic/Mestizo heritage and history through film, trips and other activities. Jimenez sharpened her leadership skills during her time as Student Government Association senator and secretary while also being a part of clubs that piqued her interest such as the Crochet Club, Chess Club and Astronomy Club.
As her confidence grew, she began working at LC in a variety of roles over the years. Jimenez helped welcome over 300 students as an orientation leader during new student orientations. She was also a student mentor with the LEAD Center, a work-study at the Office of Student Life, a student assistant at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Library and a marketing and social media intern at the Career Services and Innovation Center.
She also discovered the opportunity to give more of her time through volunteer work. She gave her time at the annual Make a Difference Day as a team leader, devoted time to bagging groceries at the Palomino Pantry and served food to the less fortunate at Bethany House of Laredo. She especially enjoyed giving toys during the Laredo College Toy Drive as her father’s childhood struggles left him without gifts during the holidays. This inspired Jimenez to ensure that any act of kindness she shows helps make a difference in another’s life.
“I felt incredibly honored and grateful because it reminded me that all the hard work, long hours and dedication I put into serving others had truly made a difference,” Jimenez said.
It all came together at graduation. Her time volunteering, working and making an impact was evident through the number of cords, stoles and medallions she proudly wore. With a wonderful smile and tassel flailing around in excitement, Jimenez shook hands with Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramírez and LC Board of Trustees members before walking off stage with her degree in hand.
Jimenez now looks forward to working at a non-profit organization with her newly earned Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership as she continues to serve her community.
“I hope my story encourages other students to believe in themselves, get involved and make the most of every opportunity,” Jimenez said. “Laredo College has given me memories, friendships, mentors and experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and I will always be proud to call myself an LC graduate.”
