Each summer, staff at both the Laredo College Ft. McIntosh and South campuses excitedly welcome hundreds of students with bright eyes and minds to their new home. A series of orientations throughout the summer are led by students, for students, toward the goal of immersing them in what LC has to offer and giving everyone the warm welcome they deserve.
That experience doesn’t end there, as incoming and returning students will be treated to fun events at both campuses starting on Monday, August 24. Welcome Week is both a celebration of our students’ return to campus and an exciting introduction to what new students can expect semester after semester.

In addition to these great events, the LC Instructional Technology Center will be hosting the Make-It Faire, a series of fun makerspace events. These events are great for students interested in using new technology for creative purposes.
The events listed below will take place from Aug. 24-27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on August 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in Room 148 of the Yeary Library at the Ft. McIntosh Campus.
Monday, 8/24 — Kickoff Faire: All-tools sampler event. Demo stations for each piece of equipment (3D printer, laser cutter, sewing machine, vinyl cutter).
Tuesday, 8/25 — 3D Printing Day: Guided session on design-to-print basics; students can design and print a small take-home item.
Wednesday, 8/26 — Laser Cutter Day: Guided session on laser-cut projects (e.g., engraved keychains, acrylic designs, wood coasters).
Thursday, 8/27 — Vinyl Cutter + Sewing Machine Day: Intro sewing session (e.g., patches, simple textile customization).
Fri. 8/28 — Open Lab: Quick-turnaround vinyl decal/sticker making, plus unstructured open-lab time for students to explore any tool.
