Laredo College Trustee Erica Benavides Garcia has been elected to serve as At-Large-Director on the Board of Directors of the Community College Association of Texas Trustees (CCATT) during the Association’s Annual Conference held Sept. 17-19 in Baytown, Texas.
CCATT is the statewide organization representing trustees and regents who govern Texas community colleges. The association promotes effective governance, trustee education, advocacy and leadership development in support of student success and strong local colleges across the state.
The election occurred on Friday, Sept. 18, during the CCATT Annual Business Meeting as trustees and college leaders gathered from across Texas for the 2026 conference, themed “Sustainable Success: Community College Governance & Long-Term Impact.” Conference sessions focused on governance, advocacy, workforce development, student success, data-informed decision-making and the long-term sustainability of Texas community colleges.
Benavides Garcia has served on the Laredo College Board of Trustees for the past four years. A strong advocate for education, she has witnessed the college’s continued growth and remains deeply committed to its mission of transforming lives through educational opportunities.
Throughout her tenure, Benavides Garcia has supported initiatives that strengthen student success, expand access to quality education and enhance community engagement.
“I am deeply honored to have been elected to the Board of Directors of the Community College Association of Texas Trustees,” she said. “As a lifelong educator and learner, I look forward to working alongside trustees from across Texas to advance student success, strengthen excellence in governance and continue learning from one another. I am especially proud to represent Laredo College and our community at the state level and to bring home ideas and opportunities that will help us continue transforming the lives of our students.”
Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramírez congratulated Benavides Garcia on her election and praised her commitment to advancing student success and higher education.

Through service on the CCATT Board of Directors, Benavides Garcia will help guide statewide initiatives and advocacy efforts that support effective governance and strengthen Texas community colleges’ ability to serve students, employers and communities.
