Deadline approaching for LC Spring 2027 Study Abroad Program applications

For some Palominos, the college experience has stretched far beyond Laredo, taking them across the Atlantic to Spain. Now, Laredo College students once again have the opportunity to embark on their own international experience through the Spring 2027 Study Abroad Program.

Applications are open through Friday, Nov. 6. Students ready for a new adventure can apply through the Study Abroad Program website: go.laredo.edu/studyabroad. It is the first step to waking up, opening a window and seeing the sun shine on Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba, Málaga and Madrid, their artisanal architecture paints the landscape and the culture permeating throughout the cobblestone roads.

LC Global Learning and Leadership Initiatives Coordinator Bianca Cubriel encourages students to take part in the Study Abroad Program to strengthen their communication, leadership and critical-thinking skills. Students can get more information by contacting her at bianca.cubriel@laredo.edu, calling (956) 794-4414 or visiting Memorial Hall, room 219 at the Laredo College Ft. McIntosh Campus.

Beyond the experience itself, studying abroad gives students a broader global perspective, an increasingly valuable asset as they prepare to enter a more interconnected workforce. For Laredo College’s first study abroad cohort, Spain became an extension of the classroom, giving students firsthand experience navigating a new culture and environment.

“International experiences also help students develop empathy and cultural awareness that strengthen leadership,” she said. “Being in unfamiliar environments builds confidence, independence and the ability to adapt, skills that carry into the workplace and community.”

The immersive journey will strengthen students’ communication, critical thinking, creativity and cultural awareness through academic, professional and community engagement across Spain. Those same skills will return home with the students, contributing to a stronger local workforce and preparing globally minded leaders who can help a border community thrive.
