Art has the power to bridge the gap between human emotion and the structured world around us.
Laredo College Fine Arts Instructor Micheal Longhofer’s exhibit “Subject Matters” will showcase his artistic journey. The gallery will also represent the evolution of his creative practice as well as mark the beginning of his new role as LC’s painting and drawing instructor.
The exhibit’s opening reception is on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery and will remain on display through Jan. 19. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Longhofer draws inspiration from the human figure and the figurative elements in rural and urban landscapes. By merging the contours of the human figure with the forms of the urban landscape, Longhofer explores the visual and symbolic balance between humanity and architecture.
“I find inspiration from the people around me, nature and the world at large,” Longhofer said. “As a representational painter, professor and former gallery curator, I value the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with my students while also nurturing a culture of learning and growth.”
With over 30 years of experience as a realist painter and visual artist, Longhofer has refined his skills in oil and acrylic painting. Attendees will explore the visual and symbolic balance between humanity and architecture.
The exhibit represents the culmination of a lifetime of painting, drawing, multimedia and creative practice. It demonstrates the depth of experience and artistic knowledge Longhofer brings to Laredo College students.
