Laredo College Honors Program

Welcome to the Laredo College Honors Program

About the Program

The Laredo College Honors Program, established by the college in 1989, challenges highly motivated, intellectually gifted students who wish to attain a higher education at a reasonable cost. Our students come to the college well prepared and are greeted by Laredo College professors with innovative, creative, and challenging courses to further nourish their educational goals.  The mission of the Laredo College Honors Program is to provide an inspiring and rigorous academic environment for students who are able and ready to accept the competitive challenge of higher education. The Laredo College Honors Program is committed in providing our students with a progressive course of study that provides new challenges to their exceptional abilities, therefore preparing them for advanced studies at major four-year institutions. The Laredo College Honors Program has always attracted serious students in the pursuit of academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership development. Under the tutelage of our highly skilled faculty mentors, our students are prepared for raising a standard of excellence, while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership. Our excellent educators at Laredo College are dedicated to offering our students the best educational experience possible in the very best academic environment available.

The Laredo College Honors Program is empowered by engaged faculty and students, who together cultivate an active learning environment that is responsive to changing needs of our community, region, and state. The Laredo College Honors Program supports challenging coursework taught by faculty members who consider themselves active mentors to our students. These faculty members create a community of scholars who share a common sense of purpose and work in the spirit of collaboration.

It is the goal of the Laredo College Honors Program to encourage our students to become outstanding, independent thinkers, as well as skilled learners. This enables our students to master critical thinking skills and self expression.  Encouragement is given to students to engage in productive teamwork, thus enabling them to master the life lesson of working collaboratively along with members of the community.

Along with sharpening language and presentation skills, there is a concerted effort to enhance our students' mathematical, scientific, and technological skills.  A higher degree of student participation and involvement in college and community activity is required of all our students. All Laredo College Honors Program students are mentored by faculty and receive personalized programs for academic and career enrichment.  One important result, in addition to the acquisition of knowledge, is the increased opportunity for these academically gifted students to transfer to a prestigious university of their choice.  All Laredo College Honors Program graduates receive a special diploma and recognition upon graduation.
