Law Enforcement Sponsorship is Required
Located at the Laredo College South Campus, the mission of the Laredo College Regional Law Enforcement Academy is to provide the highest quality law enforcement instruction to its Cadets and to ensure at all times that the standards and requirements of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) are met or exceeded.
Upon successful completion of the certificate, the candidates will be eligible for the TCOLE Basic Peace Officers Examination.
Academy Requirements
Refer to Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 217.1 with current approved rules
- Be at least 21 years of age, or become 21 years of age before course completion, or 18 years of age if the applicant has received an associate's degree or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university.
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Be a high school graduate
- Be sponsored by a Law Enforcement Agency and meet all State rules and regulations (background investigation, fingerprints, psychological, physical, age, and education). The Sponsoring Agency must provide a marked vehicle for the Emergency Driving and Patrol Procedures components of the Basic Peace Officer Course.
- Pass physical fitness assessment based on the Law Enforcement ageless genderless validation study by Tom Collingwood, Ph.D. The assessment includes:
- 1.5 miles run 15:20
- 29 push-ups
- 31 sit-ups
Application Packet
The Regional Law Enforcement Agency issues academy application packets. Completed applications are due at Orientation. For more information, contact the department at 956-794-4908.
Regional Law Enforcement Academy Training Calendar

Classes will be limited to 35 per class, and officers must follow the Laredo College Law Enforcement Academy and their respective Agency protocols to enroll in a course.
