About

The Protective Services Department at Laredo College offers two degree programs: Criminal Justice and Forensic Science Technology. Our courses prepare students for careers in law enforcement through a problem-solving approach, emphasizing ethics, modern technology, and lifelong learning. Our curriculum includes both CORE academic courses and Workforce technical courses, allowing students to either transfer to a four-year university or enter the workforce with confidence and competence. 

Whether your goal is to serve your community through policing, investigations, or forensic work, the Protective Services department offers the tools and education you need to suceed.  

Criminal Justice

The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice prepares students for a range of careers in law enforcement, public safety, and related fields. The program combines academic learning with real-world workforce experience. Students take key courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, which lays the groundwork for understanding the justice system; Fundamentals of Criminal Law, which explores the principles, history, and application of Criminal law; and Criminal Investigation, which covers essential investigative techniques like interviewing, evidence collection, and legal procedures. This degree can lead to endless opportunities in the criminal justice field, whether entering the workforce directy or continuing with advanced studies.

Forensic Science Technology

The Associate of Applied Science in Forensic Science Technology prepares students for careers in forensic investigation through hands-on learning and practical training. Courses include Criminology, which explores the cause of crime and methods of prevention and rehabilitation; Criminalistics, focused on evidence collection and scientific analysis; and Death Investigation I, which covers scene management and case documentation in line with national standards. This degree provides the skills and knowledge needed for success in the evolving field of forensic science.
