Incident Reporting
All incidents on Laredo College premises are entered into a secure database. These incidents are meticulously tracked and investigated by the Safety and Risk Management Office to implement preventative measures and ensure a safer environment for everyone. The information contained in the incident notifications is essential for maintaining successful safety programs and helps us identify patterns, address potential hazards, and improve our safety protocols.
The following types of incidents are applicable to this database:
- Near Miss: An event that could have resulted in injury, illness, or damage but did not, either by chance or through timely intervention.
- Injury/Illness: Any incident that results in physical harm or health issues to an individual, requiring medical attention or first aid.
By reporting these incidents, you contribute to a culture of safety and prevention at Laredo College. Your vigilance and cooperation are vital in helping us create a secure and healthy campus for all. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Safety and Risk Management Office. Together, we can make Laredo College a safer place to work and learn.

Workers' Compensation
Workers' Compensation Insurance (WCI) provides employees with medical benefits and, in some cases, weekly income payments, if you suffer a work related injury or occupational illness. For an injury or illness to be work related, it has to originate while you are engaged in the work your job requires you to do for the university.
You're entitled to medical aid, hospital services, and medication required at the time of injury, and afterwards, to treat the work related injury. In some cases, you may get financial benefits to make up for a portion of lost earnings and/or a permanent impairment from the injury.
For guidance on submitting an incident report or a Workers' Compensation claim, please contact Safety and Risk Management at (956) 721-5852 or at safety@laredo.edu.
