The Laredo College Board of Trustees passed a motion at its Sept. 24 regular board meeting accepting the retirement of longtime Trustee Mercurio Martinez Jr., whose decades of dedicated service helped shape the college’s growth and advancement while supporting generations of students and the broader Laredo community.
Martinez retired before the expiration of his current term, creating a vacancy in Board of Trustees Position 3.
In accordance with board policy, the board will fill the vacancy through an appointment process. The individual appointed will serve the remainder of the unexpired term through November 2028, at which time the position will be subject to the regular election cycle.
The Laredo College Board of Trustees is now accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in being considered for appointment to fill the vacancy.
Applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 25, 2026, and must be submitted in person no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 8, 2026, to the Laredo College Elections Office, located in Memorial Hall, Room 211, on the Laredo College Ft. McIntosh Campus, West End Washington Street, Laredo, Texas 78040. Eligible candidates must meet all qualifications required by Texas law and board policy.
Following the application deadline, the Board of Trustees will review all submitted applications during a special-called meeting scheduled for Oct. 12, 2026.
