The Professional Truck Driver program at Laredo College prepares students to earn a Texas Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) through a blend of FMCSA-compliant ELDT theory and hands-on Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training. Students gain real-world driving experience on range and public roads, along with instruction for key endorsements including HazMat, Tankers, and Doubles/Triples.
Designed to meet state and federal standards, this training is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in commercial freight and logistics. Upon successful completion, students earn an Occupational Skills Award in Professional Truck Driving and are eligible to test for their Texas CDL license.

Program Format
- Offered exclusively at Laredo College’s South Campus
- Includes DOT physical exam and drug testing after obtaining Commercial Learner’s Permit
- CDL exam is scheduled on-site at LC, a certified testing location.
Credential Information
Credential Attained:
Occupational Skills Award – Professional Truck Driver; Upon successful completion, students are eligible to take the Texas CDL (Class A) licensing exam on-site at Laredo College, a certified testing location.
Certifying Body: Laredo College, in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
Regulatory Alignment: Program meets all FMCSA Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements and is coordinated with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Registration Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver License
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Must be proficient in English to meet FMCSA communication standards
- Must complete a DOT physical and drug screening prior to testing
Additional Notes
Tuition includes DOT physical and drug testing after permit is obtained. Students are responsible for the initial DOT drug test required for admissions and applicable DPS fees for permits, licenses, and endorsements.
