LC Computer Technology Department will host open house

The Laredo College Computer Technology Department will open its doors to the community this week for an open house on Friday, Sept. 9.

The event will take place at the Laredo College Ft. McIntosh Campus D.D. Hachar Building in room 110 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in computer technology is encouraged to attend to learn about the different programs.

“The cutting-edge programs in the Computer Technology Department prepare graduates for exciting and profitable careers in technology,” said LC Computer Technology Department Chair Robert Moore. “Technology is changing the world. Come join us in shaping the future.”

This will be an interactive event featuring a faculty Q&A, speaker presentations and tours of the facilities. Program graduates will also be on hand to share their personal experiences in the program and the diverse career opportunities available if they pursue this career path.

The department offers three different programs that prepare graduates for the workforce with marketable skills and in-demand certifications.

The Associate in Applied Science in  Networking Technologies includes specializations in Cisco Red Hat Linux Administration and Cloud Computing. The program uses Cisco, Red Hat Linux, Microsoft and AWS Academy curriculum that aligns with industry certification. It also prepares students for industry certification in CCNA, CompTIA Network+, AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS Solutions Architect-Associate. Certification objectives are aligned with industry skills demands and are globally recognized.

The Computer Science Associate Degree is intended for university transfer into computer science baccalaureate programs. Students complete freshman-sophomore equivalent courses while at LC, then complete a computer science program at a university.

The Computer-Aided Drafting & Design Associate in Applied Science Program includes a multitude of skill sets, including solid modeling, drone aviation technology, architectural and civil drafting, surveying and geographic information systems.

Graduates of the different programs can pursue careers as network administrators, software developers, computer draftsmen and more. Additionally, the programs offer university transfer pathways through articulation agreements with Texas A&M University at San Antonio and Western Governors University.
