Academic Advising
Academic advising is the process of providing and exchanging academic information between an advisor, who represents the institution, and a student, who attends the institution. All students are required to meet with an academic or faculty advisor at least once a semester prior to the registration of their courses.
Advisors provide students with guidance in assessment score interpretation, course placement, degree planning, degree evaluations, career planning, transfer planning and review institutional polices, degree requirements and other academic information.
Services Offered
The Student Success Center provides academic advising and other services to students who are:
- pursuing an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree (students who plan to transfer to a university to earn a Bachelor's Degree)
- undecided on a program or major
- pending college readiness in Reading, Writing and Math and need to enroll in developmental education courses
- transient students who are enrolled at another college or university but plan to take courses at Laredo College to transfer back.
Students who are pursuing a workforce certificate or Associate of Applied Science degree need to meet with a faculty advisor from their respective department. Students majoring in Art, Music, and Dance should do the same as well as students who are part of the TRIO, Honors or LEAPS program. See the table below for contact information for these departments.
Who is my advisor?
There are various departments at Laredo College that provide academic advising to students, each with its own team of specialized advisors. Advisors are assigned based on the students degree program, major or involvement with a specific student program. Use the following table below to determine where you should report to for advising.
