Course Overview
This program is designed to prepare individuals to serve as front-line health workers who help bridge gaps between communities and health and social service systems. Aligned with Texas Health and Human Services standards, the CHW program emphasizes outreach, advocacy, education, and service coordination to promote health and improve access to care in underserved populations. Instruction includes cultural competence, health education, communication strategies, and public health fundamentals.

Community Health Worker Certificate of Completion
Purpose:
This program equips students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to apply for certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) as a Community Health Worker. Graduates are prepared for employment in clinics, public health agencies, nonprofit organizations, schools, and community-based programs.
Registration Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proficient in English (Reading, Writing, and Speaking)
Additional Notes
This program includes classroom instruction and community-based training designed to prepare students for real-world engagement in healthcare outreach. Participants will complete the required coursework to apply for CHW certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services and gain experience in community-centered public health strategies.
