Patient Care Technician

Program Overview

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) program is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career assisting nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering direct patient care across a variety of clinical settings. Students will gain knowledge and practical experience in areas such as basic nursing care, phlebotomy, electrocardiography (EKG), vital signs monitoring, infection control, and activities of daily living (ADLs). This comprehensive course combines theoretical instruction with hands-on training.

Certification Details

Credential Attained:
Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to challenge the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification exams for Patient Care Technician (CPT/A), EKG Technician (CET), and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Exam Format:
The exam is a computer-based test consisting of 110 multiple-choice questions, including 20 pretest questions that do not count toward the final score. Students will have 2 hours and 10 minutes to complete the exam. Testing can be completed at an NHA-approved testing center or online through live remote proctoring. Topics include scheduling, insurance and billing, documentation, regulatory compliance, and patient interaction.

Eligibility Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clean criminal background
  • Proficiency in English (Reading, Writing, and Speaking)

Additional Notes

This course is taught in English and students are required to wear a program uniform.
