Program Overview

The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) program offers a comprehensive foundation for individuals seeking to enter the dental profession as skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate team members. Emphasizing hands-on training and real-world application, this program equips students to confidently assist dentists in both clinical and administrative capacities.

Credential Information

Credential Attained:
Upon successful completion of the program, students will challenge the UT Health San Antonio Dental Assistant Exam and obtain their Dental Assistant License from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE). Additionally, this program includes an opportunity to obtain your Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and a Certificate of Completion with CEUs from Laredo College.

Exam Format:
The required RDA exam includes three timed modules administered by UT Health San Antonio: Jurisprudence (15 questions), Infection Control (10 questions), and Radiology (25 questions). Each module is followed by a proctored test that students must pass to fulfill board requirements.

Registration Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clean criminal background
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking)

Additional Notes

Students enrolled in the Registered Dental Assistant program are required to wear a designated program uniform and complete job shadowing hours in a dental office as part of their training. These real-world experiences enhance clinical readiness and build confidence in a professional dental setting.
