In order to qualify for the program, participants must:

  • Be United States citizens or be legally allowed to work in the United States
  • Be willing and able to seek employment upon the completion of the training
  • Self-attest that their employment was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Yes, if you qualify for this free workforce training, you can choose only one of the 18 short-term certificate programs listed.

This initiative is expected to cover training expenses for approximately 700 people.

The deadline to apply varies depending on the program and the number of individuals enrolled. All funds must be used before November 2025. Participants will be determined upon review of eligibility. If they meet all applicable criteria, applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis until all funding is exhausted.

This program is free of charge to all qualifying participants. All instructional materials and certifying tests fees are covered; however, some programs may require out-of-pocket expenses such as the cost of vaccines, physical exams, and/or permits not covered by tuition.

Only certain programs require a high school diploma or GED, including Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assisting, Patient Care Technician, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, and Medical Billing & Coding. It’s important to note that although your chosen program might not require a high school diploma or GED, some employers might require it for hiring purposes.

Job search opportunities are available through Laredo College - Workforce Development Center as well as thorugh the Workforce Solutions for South Texas. Job Fairs will be held throught the length of the project for all Laredo Cares participants and general public. 

Yes, it is preferred for students to have their own computer and Wi-Fi access; however, the library has a limited number of laptops available for students to check out. Students must self-identify to the instructor as to not having a laptop/computer at home. Access to Wi-Fi is available througout campus for all registered students.
